College of Education
“Educators who are builders of knowledge, values, and community”
The College of Education offers major programs that lead to Bachelor of Education degrees and initial teacher licensure through the South Carolina State Department of Education. These major programs include Elementary Education, Early Childhood/Elementary Education, and Elementary Education with Learning Disabilities. In collaboration with Departments in the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Visual and Performing Arts, the School of Education also offers the pre-teacher candidate the option of completing a prescribed sequence of Professional Education courses that lead to teaching certification in English, mathematics, social studies, music, and art. Teacher candidates, who obtain a valid, standard certificate issued by the South Carolina State Department of Education, may be eligible for certification by another state, the District of Columbia, or a United States territory under South Carolina’s reciprocity agreement. However, it is to the advantage of the candidate who plans to teach in another location than South Carolina to consult the respective location’s Department of Education to determine if there are additional requirements for certification.
The content of each course in an education program has been aligned with the principles of the Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (INTASC), the respective Specialty Professional Association (SPA) standards, the South Carolina state curriculum standards, the ADEPT assessment instrument, and the Anderson University College of Education dispositions. By clicking on any of the programs listed, the prospective student will be linked to a description that will provide information about that program. More detailed information related to each curriculum may be found in its respective section in the current edition of the Anderson University General Catalog.
