Certification Grade Spans
The following designations apply to the grade spans for teacher certification in South Carolina.
Early Childhood pre-Kindergarten–grade 3
Elementary Level grades 2–6
Middle Level grades 5–8
Secondary Level grades 9–12
The areas of art, music, physical education, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), foreign languages, theater, and all categories of exceptional children education include a pre-Kindergarten (pre-K)–12 grade span.
