An integral element of the Honors Program is the exploration of faith and knowledge. St. Anselm of Canterbury (1033-1109) described the Christian faith as “faith seeking understanding” (fides quaerens intellectum), as he attempted to reconcile the relationship between knowledge and belief.

In approximately 300 words discuss the relationship between faith and understanding.

An integral element of the Honors Program explores the questions of the past and their relevance to the present.

Tertullian (ca. 165 AD - ca. 220 AD), was a key writer in the earliest stages of Christianity. In chapter 7 of De praescriptione haereticorum, he asks about the relationship between philosophy and faith (or the academy and the church): “What does Athens have to do with Jerusalem?”

In approximately 300 words, join this discussion by offering up a response to Tertullian’s question.
