DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES

The Director of Human Resources reports to the Vice President for Finance and Operations and will provide leadership and strategic vision in the planning, development, and administration of comprehensive human resources for the University.  The director will work closely with senior leaders and other administrators to provide human resource services and support while ensuring consistency in philosophies, best practices, and alignment with Anderson University’s mission and goals. The director role requires a hands-on approach when administering the employee benefit programs, maintaining the Great Plains HRIS and Payroll system, overseeing the hiring procedures, and maintaining job descriptions and position control.  Additional responsibilities will include handling the employee relations activities, the performance management process, and other HR or payroll related functions as needed.

Successful candidate must be knowledgeable in all policies and procedures as they relate to the Department of Labor, EEOC, Homeland Security, and other governing agencies outside the University, and successfully apply them within Anderson University’s institutional guidelines. Bachelor’s degree is required.  In addition, either a Master’s degree, PHR certification, or SPHR certification is preferred.

Experience in representing the employer effectively in unemployment and workers’ compensation hearings required.  Demonstrated experience in representing the employer effectively in discussions, negotiations and other dealings with employees, on a variety of issues, and in exercising sound, expert independent judgment within general policy guidelines.  Individual must be able to exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive, complex, and confidential personnel issues and employee situations.

Additional requirements include progressively responsible human resource management experience, with at least five years' experience in a supervisory or program management capacity.  Working knowledge of federal and state laws required with work experience in a college/university setting preferred.  Successful candidate must have the ability to exhibit a high level of confidentiality and to maintain and protect the confidentiality of records and information.  Ability to interpret, evaluate, and apply complex rules and regulations; to conduct research and analysis; and to effectively develop creative solutions and problem solving as it relates to Human Resources and Payroll required.  Microsoft Office applications at an advanced level and exceptional knowledge of the internet and web based systems required. Working knowledge of Great Plains Human Resources and Payroll software preferred.  Excellent oral and written communication skills and exceptional organizational and time management skills with keen attention to detail required.
