Beige Book (also known as Summary of Commentary on Current Economic Conditions by Federal Reserve District)- This title is released eight times per year, about two weeks prior to scheduled meetings of the Federal Open Market Committee, the monetary policy body of the Federal Reserve System. Undergraduate students seeking up-to-date, easily digestible commentary on the economy should definitely consult the Beige Book.

Big Charts - Free access to charts, reports, indicators and quotes for stocks, mutual funds and major market indices. – Free advice and information on developing business plans including sample plans.

Added Feb. 2011 - Business Data You Can Use – This site, provided by the Census Bureau, census data in a user-friendly format. Includes links to Industry Snapshots and links to American FactFinder (another good page), and Industry Statistics Sampler. Updated every five years – 2002 and 2007 are latest.

Business Ethics – Links to articles, cases studies, corporate codes of ethics, professional organizations and associations, and other resources. - guides you through the maze of government rules and regulations and provides access to services and resources to help you start, grow, and succeed in business.  The Research and Resources link takes you to information on Business Statistics, Employment Data, Trade Statistics, Market Research, Country Data, Government Publications, Commercial Publications, and the Environment.

Conference Board - A trusted source for business statistics and trends, including consumer confidence reports and other economic indicators. Some content fee based.

CorpWatch - This watchdog site includes news, exposes, analysis, and first person accounts of corporate and globalization issues.

Corporate Information - The source for global corporate information on the leading companies in over 55 countries. A wide spectrum of reports that analyze, probe, review and profile.

County Business Patterns - Annual series that provides sub national economic data by industry.  

Current Industrial Reports – Provides reports on manufacturing activity in important commodity areas such as textiles and apparel, chemicals, primary metals, computer and electronic components, industrial equipment, aerospace equipment, and consumer goods.

DoingBusiness - This World Bank site in English and Spanish discusses how to do business in foreign countries and describes their business environment, laws and regulations, and economic growth. Accessible by country or topic. Country Briefings - Sixty countries are covered. Each profile includes a Factsheet, Forecasts, Economic Data (downloadable as a spreadsheet) and Political Structure/Force and Economic Structure sections.  Much of the information is embargoed for a month or fee accessed.

Added Feb. 2011 - Entrepreneur - Great source for advice on how to start, run, and expand a new business.  The Video section contains hundreds of videos features advice from experts and success stories.  Tools and Services includes startup kits, salary calculators, business plans, market tools, and more.
Added Sept. 2011Ethics Resource Center - This site covers ethical behavior, issues, and standards in both the private and public sector. It contains downloadable research articles, reports, surveys, statistics, Webcasts, and book reviews. Find information on federal policy, stealing, retaliation, executive compensation, social networking, and character education. - Anyone can use this site, but registered users have access to additional reports. Topics include Export Basis, Finding Partners and Trade Leads, Market Research, Counseling and Advocacy Services, Export Assistance Services, Trade Events, Export Finances, Shipping Documentation and Regulation, Pricing Quotes and Negotiations, Help with Trade Problems, and Buying US Products. An excellent resource for anyone wishing to do business abroad. – Chart stock movement from 3 month to 5 year period.

Food Marketing Institute - Find information on wholesale and retail food sales through browsing or keyword searching. This trade association site provides research reports, information on training and certification, lobbying updates, and industry news and advice. – Discusses future trends with links to numerous sources.

Fuld & Company – Lots of information and links on “competitor intelligence. Once there look for Intelligence Index and CI Tools. This will lead the searcher to a starting array of good business resources. 

globalEDGE - This web portal by the Center for International Business Education and Resea4rch at Michigan State organized 5,000 business and country specific sites Great for assessing, comparing, and ranking a country’s overall investment climate. Search by region, country or topic.

Industry Research Desk - This site identifies and then extensively annotates 17-plus steps in the industry research process. While weak in general retail, banking and finance information, it is a good teaching site for the novice industry researcher.

International Business Culture, Customs and Etiquette – Discusses business practices, social customs, intercultural communication, negotiating practices, giving gifts, how to address individuals, and acceptable business attire in a wide range of countries. 

Knowledge@Wharton – Contains research articles on Leadership, health economics, public policy, management, business ethics, etc.

Microsoft Investor - Personal finance site. - Providers of news and analyses on markets, stocks, and mutual funds, for the individual investor. Registration required.

Motley Fool - The Motley Fool exists to educate, amuse, and enrich the individual investor. To propose from personal finance to the stock market, the key to investment success is doing one's homework; and to show that homework can be fun.

NAICS - North American Industry Classification System – Provides classification number for business sectors.

National Trade Database – Detailed statistical and narrative information on world trade. Includes guides to doing business in foreign countries, market research, country reports on economic, social policies, and trade practices.

Oanda Currency Converters, Universal Currency - Includes currency converters, currency daily table, historical tables and charts, and forecasts.

Prendismo - [Visited Aug'10]  Founded in 2008 and now partnered with Cornell University (through the licensing of its eClips library), Prendismo is a provider of digital video and podcast content and contains more than 14,000 video and audio clips on business and entrepreneurship. Topics range from the broad (e.g., accounting, entrepreneurship, marketing, and social media) to the more specific (e.g., angel investing, product liability, and pitches and pitching). Users can also search for the most viewed clips, by speaker or company, or build their own playlist based on topic and number of clips.
