New Anderson University Adult Programs Gain Accreditation
Open House for Adult Programs to be held August 25, 2009, at 6pm
Five new Anderson University programs have gained accreditation, paving the way for classes to begin in August. The programs include a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT), Master of Ministry (M.Min.), Bachelor of Human Services, Bachelor of Liberal Studies, and the Command College of South Carolina (Criminal Justice).
Of the accreditation of the MAT program, Dr. Ray Locy, dean of the College of Education stated, “The College of Education at Anderson University is enthusiastic about offering this initial teacher certification program in elementary education to career changers who want to make a difference in South Carolina’s elementary school classrooms. This program will provide an alternative to those with an undergraduate degree who are dissatisfied in their present work situation or simply aspire to begin a satisfying career in a field that offers expanding employment opportunities.”
George Ducworth, Director and Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at Anderson, expressed his enthusiasm over the accreditation of the Command College. “I am very pleased that the Command College of South Carolina at Anderson University has received its accreditation in time to begin classes this fall. This program should fulfill the need for advanced education for criminal justice executives in South Carolina. The curriculum is intended to provide intensive exposure to relevant graduate-level material that is specifically engineered for professionals in management positions in the criminal justice field.”
The two undergraduate degrees in Liberal Studies and Human Services are already fully accredited programs offered in the ACCEL Evening Program beginning last year. The new accreditation makes possible the online delivery of the course curricula, something in ever increasing demand for working adults.
An Open House will be held on August 25, 2009 at 6pm at AU’s Thrift Library. It will provide additional information on the MAT program and the Command College, as well as the ACCEL adult evening degree program and graduate degrees including the MBA, Master of Ministry, Master of Education/Administration and Supervision, and Master of Education. For additional information, visit www.andersonuniversity.edu. Pre-registration for the open house is requested due to limited seating.
