AU’s Anthony DiCarlo Honored in St. Louis
Former Anderson wrestler Anthony DiCarlo, winner of the 2009 NCAA National
Sportsmanship Award, was honored recently at the AT&T National
Sportsmanship Awards in St. Louis at the Khorassan Ballroom of the Chase Park
Plaza. CBS College Sports will broadcast the event in a 60-minute special on
Wednesday, December 16th, at 8pm (with three repeat telecasts listed
below). The one-hour program will feature the most compelling honoree stories
and highlights from the 2009 AT&T National Sportsmanship Awards.
Nominees for the
NCAA’s Sportsmanship Award exemplify the good sportsmanship that characterizes
the highest level of respect, caring, fairness, civility, honesty, integrity
and responsibility during competition. DiCarlo represents the finest ideals of
sportsmanship, and these qualities were never more fully displayed than in a
match against an opponent from Central Missouri State University last season.
The National
Sportsmanship Awards, hosted by the St. Louis Sports Commission and the
Citizenship Through Sports Alliance, celebrates all that is right in sports by
highlighting the most remarkable examples of sportsmanship. Taking place in St.
Louis for the fifth straight year, the AT&T National Sportsmanship
Awards recognizes the most remarkable examples of sportsmanship. The
event celebrated all that’s right in sports – honoring athletes and
personalities from around the nation for their integrity, class, selflessness,
perseverance, kindness and community service, and has become one of the most
meaningful and inspiring nights in sports. Eighteen honorees were recognized at
this year’s AT&T National Sportsmanship Awards.
In addition to the
premiere telecast on Dec. 16, CBS College Sports Network will re-air the
AT&T National Sportsmanship Awards broadcast at four other times during
December. This is the first time the event will air nationally.
