Anderson University Playhouse Presents

Sophocles’ classical work comes alive in the twenty-first century

The Anderson University Playhouse will continue its 2009-2010 season with Antigone, the final chronicle in the Theban plays of Sophocles. The Belk Theatre in the Rainey Fine Arts Center will house the production January 27-30 at 7:30 pm, with an additional matinee showing on the 30th at 2:00 pm. The Anderson community is welcome to enjoy this classic piece of theatre history.

Directed by Phyllis Jackson, Anderson University alumnus, Antigone will present the traditional story in a fresh way. Using multi-media technology and a modern-language translation, the production will make the tragic Greek myth accessible to everyone. Antigone will include film interpretations of the back stories told in previous plays, shown on a 30-foot screen and produced by Joshua Jackson, also an AU alumnus.

The collaboration of live theatre and film, all featuring Anderson University’s talented students, will offer an incredible night of gripping story-telling. Lizzie Pocari, who plays Antigone’s sister Ismene, explains, “It’s a very unique production – overall, an experience you will never forget.”

The thrilling tale of one woman’s stand against immoral authority still resonates today. All are invited to attend the production; some scenes of intensity may not be suitable for small children. General admission is $10, student tickets are $5. For more information, contact the Anderson University Playhouse at (864) 231-2125.
