ANDERSON UNIVERSITY BUSINESS STUDENTS
WIN 2ND STRAIGHT NATIONAL AWARD
SIFE team repeats in Sam’s Club Environmental Sustainability
Challenge
Anderson University’s Students In Free
Enterprise, or SIFE team, has won the Sam’s Club Environmental Sustainability
Challenge for a second straight year.
The
retail giant established the competition to challenge top business programs
from around the country to develop cutting edge programs to assist Sam’s Club
business partners in becoming more efficient and environmentally sound.
The Anderson team selected
two local businesses, one a non-profit agency (Anderson Interfaith Ministries)
and the other a restaurant (The Pompous Pig) and conducted an environmental
audit. Then, using materials provided by Sam’s, the team recommended changes
related to electricity, water and paper usage, and the savings just over the
first three months were statistically significant.
“To win it last year was a
huge surprise to all of us, since it was the first time we competed with this
type of SIFE project. We knew we had a very good project and presentation, but
the competition, just like this year was very strong,” said Dr. Miren
Ivankovic, AU business professor. “Then to be invited yet again to
the Sam’s Club headquarters and be placed among top 6 schools in the nation,
then top three and finally, win the whole thing at the Nationals in
Minneapolis, speaks volumes about our students and their effort. This was very
special and I am very proud to be a part of this team.”

The AU SIFE team received
