 AU’s College of Visual and Performing Arts Presents Benefit Recital Featuring Mary Minott Burgess




The music department of AU’s College of Visual and Performing Arts is proud to present a benefit voice recital, featuring Mary Minott Burgess, Anderson native and renowned opera soprano, and George Darden, former accompanist and assistant conductor, pianist and coach for the Metropolitan Opera.


The concert is given in memory of Mrs. E. A. Burgess, the former Mary Minott of Charleston, mother of Mary Minott Burgess and lifelong supporter of music and music education. Mrs. E. A. Burgess maintained a large private piano studio from the late 1940s until the late 1970s. She was also a member of the Anderson Piano Ensemble and the Anderson Music Club, serving as president during 1979-1980. She was also active in the Anderson Community Concert Association (forerunner of GAMAC). In addition to being a communicant of Grace Episcopal Church, Mrs. E. A. Burgess served as choir director for decades, retiring in 1985. Also active in community affairs, she was a charter member of the Anderson Woman’s Club and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.


The benefit concert will take place Sunday, September 12, 2010 at 3:00 pm at AU’s Daniel Recital Hall of the Rainey Fine Arts Center.


The concert is open to the public and general admission is $10.00. Proceeds will benefit the Vocal Pedagogy Laboratory of the Music Department. For tickets call the Rainey Center Box Office at 864-231-2080.
