Record Number of Students to Graduate During AU Spring

264 graduates marks a record
number for the University
264
Anderson University students will receive their diplomas during spring
commencement exercises on Saturday, May 7 at 10:00 am. One of the South’s most
unique and scenic graduation ceremonies, the AU commencement will take place
under the 100-year-old oak trees on the front lawn of campus, named “Alumni
Lawn” during AU’s Centennial Homecoming celebration this past fall. 40 Masters
degrees will also be awarded at commencement.
Dr. Belle S. Wheelan will deliver
the commencement address. Dr. Wheelan is the President of the Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and is the first
African American and the first woman to serve in this capacity. Her career
spans over 30 years and includes the roles of faculty member, chief student
services officer, campus provost, college president, and Secretary of
Education. In several of those roles she was the first African American and/or
woman to serve in those capacities.
In addition to having another
record-setting number of graduates for spring commencement, the Saturday
ceremony will also feature the first ever Master of Teaching (MAT) graduates,
as well as Master of Criminal Justice (MCJ) graduates from The Command College
of South Carolina.
In case of inclement weather,
commencement exercises will move from Alumni Lawn to AU’s Abney Athletic Center
on the main campus.
Anderson University is a
