Anderson University Shines in U.S. News Rankings
Named #1 “Up and Coming”
regional college nationally
The latest rankings from U.S.
News & World Report released on Tuesday held more good news for
Anderson University as the institution was listed as one of the top “up and
coming” schools in the nation for a fourth consecutive year. While Anderson
retained its top tier (top 25 ranking) among regional colleges in the South,
for the third consecutive year, it achieved the #1 ranking on the publication’s
“up and coming list” which included only two regional colleges this year,
Anderson University and High Point University in North Carolina. This is the second year Anderson has been
recognized with the top honor.
The “Up
and Coming Institutions” list was developed by the magazine to identify
colleges and universities whose rapid rise in the national academic landscape
make them schools to watch for prospective students, as well as other
universities seeking best practices for improvement. Universities across
America are polled and asked which of their fellow institutions are attracting
their attention with innovation and increasing quality. Only those schools
consistently listed by the administrators of these universities make the list,
which nationally includes only 46 institutions in 2012. Among those 46, only
Anderson and High Point were listed in the category of regional colleges, with
Anderson taking the top spot.
“We were
obviously delighted to learn of our continued strong ranking and we are
especially pleased that our peers across the nation have ranked us the top ‘up
and coming university’ of our type in the South,” said Anderson’s president,
Dr. Evans Whitaker. “A lot of people on
our campus are to be commended for their efforts that have led to remarkable
achievements in recent years,” he added.
Over the
last nine years, Anderson University has been on a steady trajectory to achieve
its strategy of becoming one of the South’s leading comprehensive universities. Over the last decade, the University’s
enrollment has increased 68 percent from 1,608 to over 2,700, university status
was achieved, eight masters and doctoral degree programs were established, an
innovative study abroad program was established, a cancer research center was
initiated, four buildings were constructed, numerous facilities were renovated,
the campus quadrupled from 68 to over 273 acres, and a new school of nursing is
in development. This fall, Anderson
achieved its goal of becoming a national leader in instructional technology
when it launched its Mobile Learning
Initiative, a cutting-edge program that puts an iPad in the hands of each
freshman; these freshmen are led by tech-savvy faculty across the academic
disciplines in applying the relatively new technology in the teaching and
learning process. The University is
presently raising funds to construct a new $14 million student center to be
named in honor of U. S. District Judge G. Ross Anderson.
Anderson
University is a selective comprehensive university offering bachelors, masters,
and doctoral degrees on campus and online.
Anderson is ranked in the Top Tier of US News and World Report’s
America’s Best Colleges and is on that publication’s list of the 46 “Up
& Coming” universities in America.
It is also ranked as one of America’s “100 Best College Buys.”
