Local
University Rotaract off to a Rolling Start
Students and
Faculty Begin Rotaract Chapter at Anderson University
The faculty, staff, administration and
students of Anderson University are pleased to announce the establishment of
the University Chapter of the Rotaract Club. This Rotaract was founded with 19
student members and membership is continuing to grow week-by-week. The first
meeting for the Anderson University Rotaract was held on August 26th,
2011 and drew great interest from students in both membership and leadership
roles in Rotaract.
The
group has already established a list of projects, community service events, and
fundraising ideas for the upcoming year. The first project that that the AU
Rotaract will take on is an Anderson Area Event with the local Rotary titled Child’s Play. Rotaract members will read
children’s books to adults in an effort to raise funds for Children’s Literacy
and Books for local youth.
“The
AU Rotaract Club is off to a great start! We have had a tremendous outreach
from the three local area Rotary Clubs in Anderson,” said Rotaract President
and senior accounting student Danielle Atkinson. “I look forward to partnering
with these groups to better our community and state.”
Looking
ahead, the officers and advisors of AU Rotaract hope that by joining this
newly-formed organization, students will gain teamwork and leadership skills
through community service.
Dr.
Danny Parker, Provost of the University and Rotarian himself commented on the
newly-formed Rotaract by stating, "Rotary International's motto of
‘Service Above Self’ reflects the irreplaceable value of the commitments of
citizens around the globe who regularly go beyond their normal professional
occupations and personal obligations to do all they can to improve their
communities and the lives of those who live within them. The volunteer spirit
of Rotarians sets an admirable standard for community service and for work
toward the overall betterment of mankind. Anderson University has a
long-standing commitment to our community and to service to its citizens. Our
students perform thousands of hours of community service each year, and our
institutional values are built upon the foundation of spiritual servant
leadership. Institutional support and commitment for a campus Rotaract Club is
entirely in keeping with the long-standing tradition of service by the
students, faculty and staff of Anderson University. We are deeply proud of our
students. We are sincerely delighted to witness their interest and initiative
in creation of a campus Rotaract Club. We are and will be supportive of the
work of the Anderson University Rotaract Club as it contributes the service of
its members to the improvement of our community, and ultimately to the
betterment of mankind.”
