statement released by President Evans P. Whitaker to the Anderson campus this
Dear Campus Family:
It is with great sadness that I share with you
that our beloved student, Lamar Jack, passed away just a short time ago.
Our hearts ache for Lamar’s parents and sister,
and his larger family and circle of close friends.
He was a fine young man, appreciated and loved by
many in our campus family, especially his teammates on the Men’s Basketball
Team. His death is a great and deeply hurtful loss to our campus.
Lamar knew our Lord and Savior and we are
encouraged by the confidence that we will one day see him again.
I want to thank all of you who have wept and
prayed for Lamar over the last few days. His family has been aware of
your concern and they are very grateful. Your kindness and compassion
have made a meaningful difference.
Please continue to lift the family and the
basketball team members up to our Lord, asking for His tender mercies upon them
in this difficult hour and their challenging journey ahead.
When we know more about plans, we will share that
information with you. At the appropriate time, we will call the campus
together to honor Lamar’s life and his contributions to our campus.
Evans P. Whitaker, Ph.D.
