The Christmas First Night
Concert Tradition Continues
Anderson University to
Welcome the Advent Season
The
College of Visual and Performing Arts at Anderson University invites the
community to usher in the Christmas season at the 2011 edition of Christmas
First Night. The concert, which has become a treasured yearly event for the
Anderson community, will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 7:00 pm in
Henderson Auditorium of the Rainey Fine Arts Center.
This
year’s Christmas First Night will feature selections performed by the major
choral, instrumental, and dance ensembles of Anderson University. The concert
will also highlight soloists and small groups with equal measures of humor and
warm holiday remembrances.
Christmas
First Night offers a broad range of musical pieces, including secular seasonal
favorites along with traditional sacred songs. Christmas First Night will be a
festive evening to celebrate the heart and soul of Christmas with a variety of
art forms and genres.
Dr.
David Larson, Dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts, says the event
has become a staple as Anderson prepares for the holidays. “Hundreds of people
from the area couldn’t imagine beginning the Christmas season without First
Night,” he says. “It is truly a gift from our students and faculty to the
community and every performer puts a great deal of effort into making it
memorable.”
The
evening will conclude with the traditional Yule log ceremony on the front lawn
of the Rainey Fine Arts Center and refreshments. The concert is free to attend,
but tickets are required. Call (864) 231-2080 for more information.
