Second Annual 5k “Race for Gold” to Benefit AU Center for Cancer Research
Anderson University’s second annual “Race
for Gold” 5k event will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 9:00 am. The race
will begin at the Anderson County Courthouse Plaza.
The
event will begin promptly at 9:00 am with a cancer survivors’ recognition
program in front of the Courthouse. Following the ceremony, participants will
run/walk a 5K course beginning in downtown Anderson at the Anderson County
Courthouse and proceed up North Main Street where they will loop around and
make their way back to the Courthouse.
All
proceeds from the race will benefit the Anderson University Center for Cancer Research.
The center offers a unique opportunity
for undergraduate students to engage in various scientific research programs
focused on cancer. Through collaborations with health care institutions,
students can gain first-hand scientific research experience and witness how
their research positively impacts the lives of patients both in the community
and abroad. Dr. Diana Ivankovic currently serves as the Dr. James A Henderson
director alongside her co-director, Dr. Frank A. Norris.
Anderson
University has a distinguished record of undergraduate science research.
Students have participated in a diverse range of opportunities, including work
with the Oncology Research Institute of the Greenville Hospital System. In
addition, Anderson students have been successful in winning South Carolina
Independent Colleges and Universities Research Grants. Race for Gold will serve
as a primary fundraising event for the Anderson University Center for Cancer
Research and your support will help to develop potential new treatments in the
battle against cancer, thereby altering the outlook of cancer diagnosis and treatment
for generations to come.
The
fee for early registration (before February 21) is $20 for the general public;
late registration (after February 21) for the general public is $25.
