Anderson University Business Students Win Prestigious Video
Contest
Business students from Anderson University
recently received first place for their entry in the Federal Reserve Bank of
Richmond’s second annual “Share the Wealth” financial literacy video contest.
The competition, which was open to undergraduate students from throughout the
Fifth Federal Reserve District, including from such prestigious schools as
Georgetown and UNC, were given the challenge of creating videos to help promote
financial education.
The
winning video, created by AU students Michael Shirley and Trevor Sullivan, is
titled “Meet Joe” and encourages viewers to plan before they spend. Shirley,
who won the top honor with fellow student Sullivan, commented that, “We
thoroughly enjoyed creating this video for our Microeconomics class at AU;
to win first prize for all our hard work was truly rewarding. This experience has inspired and encouraged us to
participate in similar competitions in the future."
Dr.
Carol Karnes, Dean of the College of Business at AU, stated, “This is a great
win for Anderson University business students. Competing schools included
University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and Georgetown University in
Washington DC. The message is simple, but the students’ characterization of the
problem is quite motivating.”
The
award-winning video can be viewed on Richmond Federal’s YouTube Channel at www.youtube.com/richmondfed.
