College of Visual and Performing Arts Presents a Faculty Recital
feature accomplished pianist and AU professor Dr. Howard Kim
University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts is proud to present a
faculty recital, entitled “Music Through the Ages,” on Thursday, March 22, 2012
at 7:30 pm in the Henderson Auditorium of AU’s Rainey Fine Arts Center.
The program will feature performances by Dr. Howard Kim, Associate
Professor of Music at AU. Concert pianist, collaborative
artist, vocal coach, and conductor, Howard
Kim received his early piano training from master teacher Dorothy Hwang
at the R.D. Colburn School of Performing Arts. He earned his Bachelor of
Arts in Piano Performance from the University of California-Los Angeles,
studying under Antoinette Perry and Aube Tzerko. While completing the
Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in Piano Performance and
Literature under the tutelage of Rebecca Penneys at the Eastman School of
Music, he was awarded the Performer’s Certificate.
Dr. Kim has won numerous awards and honors and
has performed in California, New York, Florida, North Carolina, and
Canada. He has been the featured soloist with orchestras, most recently
the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra. He was a member of the Mallarmé
Chamber Players and served as the keyboardist for the Fayetteville Symphony
Orchestra and the Fayetteville Jazz Orchestra.
The recital will include works by J.S. Bach, Franz Schubert, Frederic
Choplin, and Alberto Ginastera. It is free and open to the public.
