AU SIFE Team Garners Third Consecutive Win at USA Regional Competition
The Anderson University SIFE (Students in Free
Enterprise) team was named Regional Champion at the SIFE USA Regional
Competition held April 2 in Atlanta, GA. Other teams competing in Anderson’s league were the
University of Georgia, Fisk University, North Georgia College and State
University, and the University of Southern Mississippi. The event is one of 11
SIFE USA Regional Competitions being held across the United States in March and
April.
“This
is the third year in a row our SIFE team has placed in the regional
competition,” said Dr. Carol Karnes, Dean of AU’s College of Business. “The
team has become more focused and intentional about helping others in the
community through their projects. Team members have shown a sincere passion for
these projects, as well as exhibiting servant hearts. Their passion has only
fueled their desire to work hard, perfect their presentation skills, and go
into the competition with a drive to win.”
Anderson University is one of nearly 600 SIFE programs
in the United States. Participating students use business concepts to
develop community outreach projects that improve the quality of life and
standard of living for people in need.
The AU SIFE team works on a variety of
community-improving projects each year; AU’s “Let’s Can Hunger” Campaign with
Campbell’s Soup collected over 40,000 pounds of non-perishable foods in one
year.
The culmination of the SIFE program is an annual
series of competitions that provide a forum for teams to present the results of
their projects, and to be evaluated by business leaders serving as
judges. Teams compete first at the regional and national levels, then at
the international level when the national champion teams from each country meet
at the SIFE World Cup.
As a SIFE USA Regional Champion, the Anderson
University SIFE team now advances to the 2012 SIFE USA National Exposition in Kansas
City, Missouri, May 22-24, 2012.
