5th Annual President’s Gala Promises Thrills
Lively performance slated for Friday night at Anderson
University
One of the most anticipated events in the performing arts scene
of Anderson and the surrounding areas makes its return Friday night as the
finest performers from the highly ranked College of Visual and Performing Arts
at Anderson University put on a thrilling show for Anderson area residents.
The
free, but ticketed President’s Gala will take place Friday at 8pm at the
Henderson Auditorium of the Rainey Fine Arts Center at AU. The show is free,
but tickets are required and can be obtained by calling the Rainey Fine Arts
Center box office at 864-231-2080.
The fifth annual President’s
Gala will be bigger and better than ever. Featuring over 125 student
performers, the annual pops concert extravaganza is packed with exciting
musical performances. The concert will feature five musical theatre
numbers, including Operator and Fine Romance, from The All Night Strut, and Mama
Says and Holding Out for a Hero,
from Footloose. A coveted
tradition at the President’s Gala is The Freshmen Theatre Showcase, which this
year will present a medley from Seussical
the Musical. The sixty-member AU Orchestra will perform Mars, the Bringer of War, from Gustav
Holst’s The Planets. The new
Piano Symphony will present The Noise of
a Multitude and senior soprano Octavia Hall will perform Summertime, from Porgy and Bess. This is the first year that the AU Jazz
Ensemble will be featured in the performance, playing a jumping version of the Theme from Peter Gunn, by Henry
Mancini. The President’s Gala will conclude with rousing version of One Day More, from Les Miserables. According to CVPA Dean, Dr. David Larson,
“The caliber of performances this year is exceptional. This will be an
event you don’t want to miss.”
