School of Nursing Given Final Accreditation Approval
SACS affirms degree program that will begin in August
The Commission on Colleges (COC) of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) has given its approval for the School of Nursing at Anderson University to grant Bachelor of Science in nursing degrees. The Commission's approval clears the way for classes to begin in August with accreditation by the University's regional accrediting body. Following the approval in May by the South Carolina Board of Nursing, Anderson University was able to provisionally admit students to the program while awaiting final accreditation. The SACS approval allows those students to begin the program with no conditions.
"Today's approval marks the culmination of more than two years of hard work on the part of many on our campus," said Dr. Evans Whitaker, president of Anderson University. "I congratulate Dr. Pamela Binns-Turner who, as dean of the program, has capably led her talented team in developing a world-class facility and excellent nursing curriculum. I also congratulate our new nursing students as they embark on what we believe is one of the most technically advanced, state-of-the-art nurse training programs in our region."
Anderson's School of Nursing will launch with full cohorts in both traditional Bachelor of Science degree for undergraduate students and the accelerated Bachelor of Science for adults seeking to advance in, or enter the field of nursing.
"This is a momentous day for the Anderson School of Nursing," said Dr. Pamela Binns-Turner, dean of the program. "I'm grateful for God's blessing and outstanding support from the University and greater Anderson communities for this unique school of nursing. Our students are equally excited as we prepare to develop highly-skilled health care professionals who feel called to make a difference in South Carolina and the world."
The School of Nursing faculty is in place and construction on a state-of-the-art classroom and laboratory facility is was completed last month on Anderson's campus.
