Great grandmother of three School of Nursing students graduated from Anderson’s education program

When Anderson University freshman Lauren Eidson of McDonough, Georgia, moved into the Clamp Residence Hall on Move-In Day in August, the family story was already turning some heads.

Lauren Eidson, you see, is one of three Eidson siblings pursuing an undergraduate degree in AU’s School of Nursing at the same time. Her brother Daniel is a senior and her other brother Shaun is a sophomore.

But there was another family connection that was even more noteworthy.

The ring on the finger of their mother Karen Eidson, told that story. Karen Eidson explained that the Anderson class ring she wore was from the Anderson class of 1921.

“My grandmother wore it,” Karen Eidson explained. “She was a student here all those years ago.”

Kathleen Hall was attracted by the reputation Anderson had for training teachers in 1918. After graduation in 1921, she took her first job teaching in the nearby city of Belton, South Carolina. As she grew older she passed her beloved class ring on to her granddaughter, perhaps in the hopes that she might wear it on the Anderson campus as a student. While that didn’t happen, Karen Eidson did wear it when she came to move her own daughter into her residence hall.
