Course Title: IS 398 –Building Cross-Cultural Relationships through Teaching English as a Foreign Language

Course Description: Language can be an insightful conduit into another culture. This course will not only equip students in fundamentals in the transferable skill of teaching English as a second language, but will use the medium of language to explore American and Japanese cultures. It will build relationships through collaborative teaching of English as a foreign language (TEFL) lesson planning and execution with fellow Japanese students, and build bridges in communicating the gospel within the context of language study.

Travel Dates: May 29 to June 8

Housing/Accommodations: Homestay with Japanese families.

Partner(s): Hokuirku Gakuin University and Kanazawa Baptist Church (KBC).

Eligibility Requirements: Students must be eligible juniors or seniors (at least a 2.5 gpa) and who have not attended a previous AU Abroad program.

Scholarship: Scholarships are awarded to reduce the cost for travel, which is an additional fee from tuition and fees and charged as part of student's registration for program. Scholarships of up to $1,000.00 are given to all who apply. Scholarship amount depends upon GPA, class standing and financial need.
