The show’s about to start, and backstage the crew of Mary Poppins is going through a checklist to ensure that the flying stunts will be safe, while a crowd of hundreds gathers in Henderson auditorium to see the performance. Meanwhile, theatre department students and staff have already begun planning the next more intimate musical, Next to Normal, to be held in the smaller Belk Theatre, and an artistic collaboration has been set in motion between the theatre and art departments to plan a multi-media production of George Bernard Shaw’s St. Joan. Such collaborative muscle is crucial in theatre and the hallmark of studying at the South Carolina School of the Arts.
