September 27, 2013 - Theatre (First Glance visit event featuring fall play)
October 25, 2013 - Music and theatre (Trojan Preview visit event featuring fall musical)
November 22, 2013 - Art, music and theatre (All Access visit event)
January 20, 2014 - Art, music and theatre (Martin Luther King Jr. Day)
February 21, 2014 - Art, music and theatre (First Glance visit event featuring winter play)
April 4, 2014 - Theatre (Spring play)

Visual Arts Interview Requirements

Art Education, Ceramics, Graphic Design, Painting/Drawing

  • Bring a portfolio with 15-20 images representing a variety of subject matter and range of media. Evidence of Creative problem solving and capacity to draw from direct observations is highly desirable.
  • Bring a letter of reference from your high school art teacher.
  • A minimum high school GPA of 3.0 is required for all Art Scholarship Applicants

Music Audition Requirements

All Music Majors Prior to Your Audition:

  • Complete Music Audition Application.
  • Provide two Letters of Recommendation from a high school teacher, a private music teacher, or a church musician.
  • Write and bring with you an essay on the following:
    • What are the main reasons that you want to attend Anderson University?
    • Discuss your skills, abilities, and personal qualities that you think will provide value to the AU Music Program.
    • What are your most important educational and career goals within the next five years? What are your longer-range goals?

All Music Majors for Your Audition:

  • See Music Audition Requirements for a more detailed list of requirements
  • Perform two contrasting pieces on your primary instrument. Worship Leadership majors perform two contrasting worship songs including at least one hymn or other sacred song.
  • Sight read simple rhythms.
  • Sight sing simple melodies.
  • Singers - complete a test of vocal range, vocal quality, and tonal memory.
  • Instrumentalists - know appropriate scales and arpeggios for your instrument
  • Complete a Theory Placement Test

All Music Minors for Your Audition:

  • Complete an ensemble audition appropriate to your instrument.
    • Singers - complete a test of vocal range, vocal quality, and tonal memory; sight read and sing simple melodies and rhythms
    • Instrumentalists - perform an etude; know appropriate scales and arpeggios for your instrument; sight read and play simple melodies and rhythms
  • Complete a Theory Placement Test

For Ensemble Audition Only:

  • Complete an ensemble audition appropriate to your instrument

    • Singers - complete a test of vocal range, vocal quality, and tonal memory; sight read and sing simple melodies and rhythms
    • Instrumentalists - perform an etude; know appropriate scales and arpeggios for your instrument; sight read and play simple melodies and rhythms

Theatre Audition Requirements

Theatre Majors

  • Theatre - Perform two one-minute memorized monologues of contrasting nature.
  • Interview with faculty
  • Bring a letter of reference from your high school theatre director or from a director who knows your work in the theatre
  • Bring a theatrical resume listing your experience and a current picture of yourself (doe s not have to be a professional headshot; a high school senior picture will suffice).
  • Optional – Dance Placement Test (Masterclass Setting). If you are a Theatre or Design student, you will need to participate if you are intending to take Dance Classes as a student. Please bring clothes which allow you to move in the dance audition as well as dance shoes if you have them. The placement test allows us to place you into the proper course based upon your experience and knowledge.

Theatre Majors with a Dance Concentration

  • Perform one one-minute memorized monologue.
  • Perform a one-minute choreographed piece. Please bring a tape or CD as accompaniment.
  • Interview with faculty
  • Dance Placement Test (Masterclass Setting). Please bring clothes which allow you to move in the dance audition as well as dance shoes if you have them. The placement test allows us to place you into the proper course based upon your experience and knowledge.
  • Bring a letter of reference from your high school theatre director or from a director who knows your work in the theatre
  • Bring a theatrical resume listing your experience and a current picture of yourself (does not have to be a professional headshot; a high school senior picture will suffice).

Theatre Majors with a Theatrical Design Concentration

  • Perform one one-minute memorized monologue
  • Interview with faculty
  • Bring a design portfolio displaying any renderings or designs that would show the development and breadth of your theatre skill. You can review the portfolio guidelines here.
  • Bring two letters of reference from your high school theatre director and from a director who knows your work in the theatre
  • Bring a theatrical resume listing your experience and a current picture of yourself (does not have to be a professional headshot; a high school senior picture will suffice)
  • Optional – Dance Placement Test (Masterclass Setting). If you are a Theatre or Design student, you will need to participate if you are intending to take Dance Classes as a student. Please bring clothes which allow you to move in the dance audition as well as dance shoes if you have them. The placement test allows us to place you into the proper course based upon your experience and knowledge.

Musical Theatre Majors

  • Perform two selections (32 measures of each selection) from musical theatre repertoire. Please bring a tape or CD as accompaniment
  • Perform a one-minute memorized monologue.
  • Interview with faculty
  • Complete a Music Theory Placement Test
  • Dance Placement Test (Masterclass Setting). Please bring clothes which allow you to move in the dance audition as well as dance shoes if you have them.
    ***Note: If you have never had theory or dance, please note that your audition and entry into the department is not dependent upon your scores for these placement tests. The placement tests allow us to place you into the proper course based upon your experience and knowledge.
