Physical Theatre with Doug Berky

This workshop will offer instruction and training in Physical Theatre, a style of acting that relies on the gestures of the performer to tell the story. It will include concepts in approach through physical discipline and improvisation. Doug Berky will cover elements of mime theatre, mask performance, and acting as a part of an ensemble.

Please note that students wishing to participate should come dressed to move and participate in improvisational exercises.

About Doug Berky

Doug Berky is an internationally renowned professional theatre artist whose work reflects the style of Commedia Dell'Arte, vaudeville, as well as mask and mime theatre. His credentials also include the following:

  • Began his professional training at the Dell'Arte School of Mime and Comedy in Blue Lake, California
  • Featured performer at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre Cabaret Symposium
  • Internationally known for his design and construction of masks which have been featured in Shakespearean and ballet productions, music videos, television shows, and with individual performing artists
  • Toured with The Montanaro Mime Theatre (South Paris, ME), The Two Penny Circus (Barre, VT), Sunshine Too (Rochester, NY)
