The city of Anderson has been my home since I was five years-old. But Anderson University became my true home in 2007. I discovered my passion for service here. I discovered a love for learning (though my undergraduate GPA would suggest otherwise!) I met my wife here. When it came time to propose to Candace, I could think of no place better to get down on one knee than at the alma mater we still love so much. It was a shared interest in service while undergrads that brought us together.
I majored in psychology with the ultimate goal of a lifetime of employment in social service work. I knew from a young age that I wanted to work with children and teenagers and I thought Child Protective Services would enable me to best utilize this passion. God had other plans.
Throughout college and while serving in two different roles within the Department of Social Services, I continued to volunteer as a counselor with my church's youth group. Shortly after I left the Department of Social Services, I was hired as the full-time director of youth ministries at Trinity United Methodist Church. This position led me to Jason Rutland, who came to buy a pumpkin with his family at our annual pumpkin patch. Talking with Jason led Candace and me to joining the Alumni Board, of which we've been tremendously honored to serve. I currently serve as the Vice President and look forward to becoming the President after Laneika's term ends this year.
Giving back to the university which gave so much to me is an opportunity I relish each and every day. Anderson University is truly home to me!
