Twenty-two alumni celebrated 50+ years graduating from AU
Picture perfect weather and a buzz among families and alumni over the impressive growth and momentum at Anderson University resulted in what is believed to be a record crowd of over 1,600 at homecoming on October 25.
“A sensational performance of the Broadway musical Mary Poppins didn’t hurt either,” said AU Marketing and Communication Director Barry Ray.
The annual Homecoming and Family Day began on Saturday as members of the Golden Anchor Society were pinned, signifying their 50-year anniversary of leaving Anderson as students. Eighteen members from the Class of 1964 were inducted into the Golden Anchor Society as were four older alumni – one from 1955 and three from 1956.
Following the ceremonies on the main campus, the crowd moved to the Athletic Campus where there was live music, a barbecue competition, face painting and inflatables for the kids, and food, ranging from funnel cakes to the barbecue. Families and alumni were able to visit with the Anderson faculty throughout the day as the crowd swelled with anticipation of the soccer games featuring AU’s men’s and women’s teams against conference foe Wingate University.
Per tradition, the homecoming court was introduced between the two soccer matches. Caleb Montgomery Cash, the son of Richard and Marcia Cash from Powdersville, South Carolina, was crowned homecoming king. He is a senior business major. Meredith McCray, the daughter of Carroll and Angel McCray from Boiling Springs, North Carolina, is this year’s homecoming queen. She is a senior interior design major.
