Welcome from the Dean

“Education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and world better than you found it.”
—Marian Wright Edelman (South Carolina native)

Welcome to the Anderson University College of Education website.  There are many exciting things going on in the College of Education, and you can learn about them through exploring this site. I am impressed by the commitment of our faculty, staff, students, and community partners to excel and push the limitations of what is possible to improve the quality of education for all students.

Anderson University and the College of Education have a proud history of teacher education. Today, we prepare teacher candidates to be twenty-first century educators, impactful administrators, community leaders, researchers, and changers of culture through our commitment to offer the highest quality of programs that foster the development of “educators who are builders of knowledge, values, and community.”

The College of Education is proud to offer programs in both undergraduate and graduate studies. These programs are facilitated by professional educators who have numerous years of practice, both as classroom teachers and administrators. For that reason, the graduates of our programs are prepared for initial certification or continuing practice, fully equipped to apply best practices based on the latest research in the field. Further, our candidates find an institutional environment that provides serious academics, warm hospitality, serious faith, and a sincere desire on the part of all faculty and staff to help each student succeed. I invite you to contact us for further information about joining our important work in the College of Education.

It is an honor and a privilege to serve Anderson University and the greater community as the dean of the College of Education. I invite you to explore our website to find your calling, your passion, and your career in education. I look forward to working with you in the critical work of educating our children.

Dr. Mark Butler
Dean of the College of Education
