Assistant/Associate Professor of Education (Literacy)

Anderson University and the College of Education invite applications for a full-time, nine-month position as Assistant/Associate Professor of Education with primary teaching responsibilities in the area of Literacy. The College of Education enrolls 500+ students, employs 14 full-time faculty members, and is supported by 7 staff members, in addition to part-time faculty and staff members. Education faculty teach in the residential undergraduate programs on the main campus in Anderson, SC and online. Anderson University is an innovative, entrepreneurial, premier comprehensive, liberal arts university affiliated with the South Carolina Baptist Convention. Anderson University recognizes three paths for faculty employment: annual appointment, professional path, and tenure track.  Faculty hired for annual appointment are evaluated on mission fit, and teaching and learning. They begin employment at the rank of instructor with the opportunity to promote to senior lecturer. Faculty in the Professional Path focus on teaching and learning and are evaluated on mission fit, teaching and learning, and service; and they are able to promote through professorial ranks. After six years of exemplary service, faculty on the Professional Path become eligible for multi-year contracts. Faculty on tenure track focus initially on teaching and learning, but they are evaluated on mission fit, teaching and learning, service, and scholarship. Tenure-track faculty promote through professorial ranks and are eligible for tenure status in year six.

This ideal candidate for this position will hold an earned terminal degree in a field of education (PhD or EdD) and relevant experience in the field of literacy instruction and education. The preferred candidate will be expected to demonstrate potential for teaching excellence in traditional and online settings, extensive professional experience and some scholarly activity, and an interest in serving the profession. Preference will be given to applicants with higher education teaching experience and/or P-12 teaching or teacher preparation experience, and sufficient scholarship to warrant tenure-track status. The ideal candidate will also hold current state teacher certification.  Knowledge of the South Carolina Read to Succeed Standards is expected.
