Anderson University’s Office of Student Development invites applications for a full-time position as Director of Residence Life. The Director serves a leadership role within the Student Development division of Anderson University. The Director also provides leadership and oversight for areas within Student Development that support students’ residential and co-curricular experience. The Director works with the Dean of Students as well as other professional staff in the Student Development division to implement and maintain effective residence life programs that support and serve Anderson University students.
Collaborates with the Dean of Students, and the Residence Director Staff to develop and implement a robust residence life program that supports and serves Anderson University students. This will include program development, housing management, policy development and evaluation, and assessment for effectiveness of all Residence Life, programs, and activities. This is a live-on position that requires the Director to reside in University owned housing.
Provides administrative oversight and leadership to the Residence Director staff and student Resident Advisors. Directly supervises the Residence Director staff. Plans and implements annual training for Residence Director and Resident Advisor staff at the beginning of each school year and ongoing training throughout the year.
Collaborates with the Associate Vice President of Student Development and the Dean of Students to implement student accountability practices and processes in support of the University mission, values, conduct policies and guidelines.
Serves students through availability to support them through problem-solving, decision-making, support in personal concerns, accountability and/or referrals. This may include, but is not limited to: personal conversations to support students; managing crises in students’ lives such as, suicide attempts, pregnancy, death, and divorce, providing support and/or accountability as needed; holding students accountable when necessary, providing for appropriate consequences, and follow-through; and consulting with faculty, administration, staff and parents on matters related to students.
Performs essential administrative tasks including: oversight of housing assignments, reconciling billing associated with housing and meal plan charges, documentation and accurate record keeping, confidentiality, budgeting, performance appraisals, and writing annual goals and reports.
Is expected to engage with Campus Safety Officers and respond to individual student and campus emergencies when needed and provides support and assistance to the Residence Director “on call.”
Represents Student Development on committees within the department and externally as needed.
Collaborates with the Student Development leadership team to support programs and activities sponsored by the Student Development division. Participates and supports University wide events, programs, and activities as appropriate and necessary.
Essential Knowledge and Skills
Requires knowledge equivalent to that gained through completion or near completion of a master’s degree in Student Development, Higher Education, or closely related field and five to seven years of progressively responsible experience. Experience working with an online housing management system and student information systems. Proficient in Excel and basic understanding of billing processes. A strong commitment to quality relationships, warmth, excellence, and Christ-like service is essential. Must have a mature and contagious evangelical Christian faith. Commitment to the academic and Christ-focused mission of Anderson University is essential. Must be able to work with a diverse student population and demonstrate a commitment to the holistic development of students. The ability to work in a professional and confidential manner with all staff, students, parents, and public is essential.
